Many older applications still do their job. The trouble is that changing them is slow, nobody dares touch the oldest parts, and connecting them to anything modern is painful. We upgrade them in stages: the framework and database first, then the structure, then APIs, then a new front end if the old one is holding you back. We also use AI to read the old code and write down what it really does, which makes everything after that much safer.
